I find it ironic that TJMS would have this commentary on the negative input from the black community and its effect on black women when almost everyday, Tom and Jay joke(?) about Jay’s love of white women, Tom’s light skin, and George’s dark skin. Gabby Douglas did a wonderful job, and she looked great doing it. What damage is being done, however, to the many, many children who hear Tom and Jay talk about needing a white man to fix their technical problems. Even if they mean it ironically, those kids who are eating their breakfast or riding in the car on the way to school may not understand the irony and take it at face value. TJMS does a wonderful job in informing and supporting the Black community, but in this area, it needs to look more closely at its own contribution to the damage the society is inflicting on black children. Yes, we can just turn it off, but doesn’t the show have any responsibility for having people save those kinds of jokes for the comedy clubs or adults-only audiences.
