There are certain news stories that are simply too outrageous to be believed and this one definitely falls right into that category. Making the rounds in today’s ridiculous news stories is one which involves a #MannequinChallenge gone terribly wrong.

A group of criminals in Alabama decided to participate in the hugely popular social media sensation known as the #MannequinChallenge and found themselves promptly arrested. Yes, this actually happened. Two Alabama men thought that it would be a good idea to join in the fun of the #MannequinChallenge by uploading a video of them aiming illegal guns in a frozen state to garner favorites and likes.

What actually happened was the new jewelry they acquired in the form of handcuffs after they were arrested. The Root has the further details of this bizarre case that proves common sense isn’t so common these days.

Via The Root:

The Mannequin Challenge has jumped the shark, but I guess those in Alabama weren’t made aware of this as two men were arrested after video was posted showing them aiming guns. Kenneth Fennel White, 49, and Terry Brown, 23, were busted after being spotted in the heavily armed video, WHNT reports.

Not sure if the video—which shows several men frozen in various phases of a shootout—was watched nearly 5 million times on Facebook because it was awesome, or because viewers couldn’t believe that the men would be so carelessly brazen. Nevertheless, the video went viral and drew the attention of police.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office got a warrant and searched the property after being tipped off to the video’s existence. “You have a lot of people with firearms at one address,” Capt. Mike Salmonsky told WHNT. “And you have to ask yourself the question, ‘Why?’”

Cops seized two handguns, an assault rifle and a shotgun, along with multiple rounds of ammunition. White, a convicted felon, was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a violent felon. Brown was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering and promoting prison contraband, WHNT reports.

File this under “I’ll do anything for likes and attention.” Both of these men were caught simply because (like many others these days) they decided to tape themselves doing something stupid…and illegal. You can check out the VIDEO of the incident below:
