Khoudia Diop has heard it all when it comes to her dark skin tone.

“They nicknamed me Darky, Daughter of the Night or Mother of the Stars,” said the 19-year-old Senegalese model, who says she was bullied about her color throughout her childhood. She has since learned to embrace her rich hue — and the Internet has followed suit.

Now, the self-proclaimed “@MelaninGoddess” is a top model with over 235,000 followers on Instagram, where she shows off her beautiful pics and inspires other dark-skinned girls with messages of self-love.

“I was teased a lot growing up, because of my skin tone,” Khoudia, who is based in Paris, told the Daily Mail. “And now even online sometimes, people will make comments. Growing up, I faced it by confronting the bullies. As I grew, I learned to love myself more every day, and not pay attention to the negative people.”

Khoudia, who began modeling when she was 17, says it’s time that young girls show pride in the features that make them unique.

“If you’re lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change,” she says.
