Oh…the pain of being part of the BeyHive, yet not allowed to see your queen in person.

Such is the predicament of Genesis, the adorable 6-year-old daughter of Emmy nominee Viola Davis. During the “How to Get Away With Murder” star’s appearance on today’s episode of “Ellen,” the actress spoke about this new source of drama in her household.

“She’s 6 years old and her latest thing is Beyoncé,” Davis told host Ellen DeGeneres. “She wanted to go to a Beyoncé concert and we said, ‘No. You cannot go to Beyoncé, Genesis.’”

Her daughter was understandably heartbroken.

“She went, ‘No! you don’t know what Lemonade means to me, Mom!’” Davis recalls. “‘You don’t know what Beyoncé means to my life!’”

  1. Some of you must not have kids…just because your child is not introduced to many things in the household, doesn’t mean that they don’t know…HELLO..if they got friends and attend school or any other activity which involves other kids….they will be exposed to a degree. So that’s how and why she even knows about BEYONCE’s Lemonade. Kudos to you Viola!!

  2. Does she she her Mom on the TV show How to get away with Murder???? She is having sex with women. I don’t think she should see Beyoncé either.

  3. Congratulations to her, no 6 year old should be going to and adult concert, or be aloud to watch videos, Beyonce may in a lot of young people eyes be talented, but most entertainers today are an embarrassment to the music industry, I just wish she would wear clothes and not be mostly naked on stage, there is no class in the business anymore.

Finally, a mother being a real mother and not being driven by media hype. Genesis will get over it.
Beyoncé own daughter shouldn’t be allowed at a Beyoncé concert, RE-DIC-U-LOUS!

She does not need to see a show that objectifies women, even when the artist is a woman. Also, some of her ideals about race are unacceptable as well.

  6. Thank you Ms. Davis! The last thing she needs to be learning are lyrics about ..Not thinking about a N*××a” or P***y Popping in a swimsuit.

I agree with Ms. Davis. What can a 6-year old learn from Beyonce…how not to have morals, and to show everyone what they don’t need to see.?

  8. Jzzyj1. Most children these days are introduced to things that are way over their understanding. She may have seen it over a friends house even if her mother did not allow it in her home. The show is still to grown for a girl her age. We need more parents like Ms. Davis.

  9. Beyonce’s shows are appropriate for a mature audience, as is Viola’s show with its over sexed content, however, how does Genesis know about Lemonade in the first place, unless she was allowed to view it as a 6 year old!

    • Right, Jzzyj1 – Not only should her daughter not go to the concert, she should not know the songs or be allowed to view the videos. A 6 yr old be exposed to that content at all!
