If you missed it, Tuesday was the was the season premiere of that used to be called “Live with Kelly and Michael.” But since the “Michael” in the title (Michael Strahan) left the show last season, it’s now titled aptly titled “Live with Kelly.” The “Kelly” in the title is of course Kelly Ripa, who also received a big promotion. Along with Michael Gelman, she’s now an executive producer.
On top of Kelly’s upgrade, the show’s studio also got some attention as in new velvet chair covers and other aesthetic changes.
“Wow, they spared no expense!” Ripa joked.
The big question since Strahan’s departure has been and still is who is going to replace him? That is yet to be determined, but Tuesday actor Morris Chestnut was in the house to serve as co-host in the premiere episode, and Chris Noth, Bradley Whitford and Martina McBride all appeared as guests, reports E! News.
It seems Chestnut and Ripa have a shared experience: sending their kids off to college — which became their opening subject. Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, said goodbye to their son, Michael Consuelos, while Chestnut and his wife Pam Byse dropped off their daughter Paige Chestnut.
“My wife was very emotional,” Chestnut shared. “I got emotional when I saw her credit card bill. Every time I called she said, ‘I’m at Target picking up something for Paige’s dorm. I’m at whatever local store picking up something for Paige’s dorm.’ I got the bill back, and she must have been at the top-notch furniture stores. I think I might go there for vacation because I’m sure her room looks like the Ritz-Carlton.”
“I’m lucky I have a son,” Ripa joked. “He just wanted a pillow.”
And check this out. At the end of the show, Ripa said Chestnut would return to co-host Wednesday and teased a “big announcement.” You think it will be the name of her new co-host?
