Last week, a white Wichita grandmother claims someone sent her a racist letter in the mail, telling her that black people were not welcome in her neighborhood, KSNW news reported

See, Nancy Wirths has nine grandkids, six of them who are African-American, a fact that her neighbors seem to have an issue with. So they sent her the following note:

“We have noticed there are some black children at your residence. Maybe you are running a daycare or these are your children. In either case, we have put our house for sale. This neighborhood does not need any blacks in it.”

The letter concluded that there’s a reason why people of color live ‘the other side of the tracks’ and that is where these people belong, KSNW noted.

“I hope this never happens to anyone else,” Wirths told the news outlet. “I look over my shoulder. I watch. The kids aren’t allowed to be outside,” she said.

Wichita police are looking into the incident, stating that whoever sent Wirths the letter could be charged with disorderly conduct. Yet for Wirth, she is saddened that her grandbabies have to endure this type of hatred.

“These are kids under the age of ten where me and their parents are trying to raise them, you have to love everybody, be friends with everybody. It doesn’t matter if they’re brown, purple,” Wirth said.  “It’s just a shame that they have taken the innocence away from the children,” she added.

Shame is right.
