Iyanla Vanzant’s hit show on OWN, Iyanla: Fix My Life, is back in September and she’s got a few surprises lined up.
In a preview for the upcoming season, Marie Holmes, the North Carolina woman who made headlines in 2015 for hitting the $188 million jackpot, appears as a guest on the show. Since her win, Holmes has squandered a significant portion of her money bailing her boyfriend, Lamar “Hot Sauce” McDow, out of jail.
According to WECT, McDow was arrested on drug charges and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Holmes is also active in her community. Her self-named foundation recently sponsored a back to school drive, providing 300 backpacks for local children. In 2015, she donated $680,000 to Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, according to WECT.
Fix My Life’s upcoming season will focus on dispelling the myth of the “Angry Black Woman.” With the spiritual guru’s help, eight women, including Holmes, will move into a home assigned with the task of aligning with their best selves.
Vanzant’s show has featured controversial celebrities in the past seasons, including rapper DMX and reality star, Evelyn Lozada.
