Jermaine Dupri is pretty busy these days with two reality shows on two different networks. JD stars in Lifetime’s competition show ‘The Rap Game’ and BET’s ‘Music Moguls’. Both series follow the journey of what it takes to make it in the music business and the behind the scenes happenings of what it takes to be a pioneer in the music industry.

The Grammy winning producer talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about his move to television and why it’s harder for a female rapper  to be successful than a male rapper.

The premise of ‘The Rap Game’:

“I put these kids through Jermaine Dupri boot camp to see who is ready to work with me. You get a chance to see the beginning of a process.”

Who has it harder – male or female rappers?

“People really don’t give female rappers a chance to do well. When I signed Brat I was scared as hell. Prior to Brat coming out, she was the first to go Platinum solo. To get a guy to ride around in his car listening to a female rapper is hard.”

The Rap Game premieres Friday, July 22 on Lifetime. Click the link above to hear the entire interview.
