Imagine a normal night out buying groceries with your boyfriend and daughter. Even when you’re stopped by the police, you are expecting that it will be routine – a ticket or warning for a broken tail light, one of the most commonly overlooked problems on a car. Diamond ‘Lavish’ Reynolds certainly didn’t think that instead of continuing her evening out, she’d instead be witness to a murder.

As the world now knows, Reynolds, the girlfriend of Philando Castile was the driver of the car that was pulled over. She was the one who recorded the horrific shooting of Castile, who, after telling police that he was legally armed and had a permit to carry his weapon, went to get his ID as instructed by the officer. Instead, he was shot and killed.

Reynolds, whose 4-year-old daughter was in the car, was then pulled out of the car, forced to kneel on the ground, detained and separated from her daughter, though she hadn’t committed or even been accused of a crime. Now, she is speaking out about her experience, which included her phone, car and even her groceries being taken from her and admitted into evidence.

“I want justice,” Reynolds says. “And even after justice, this will never go away,” she said. “Everyone who shared that video – they don’t want you guys to be a part of this. They don’t want us to stand up for one another. They don’t want us to support each other. They want everybody to stand up for them. They are going to tamper with evidence. They are going to tamper with witnesses. They are going to do whatever they have to do to cover their butts.”
