On Sunday, I spent my day at Prospect Park, in Brooklyn, New York, surrounded by the epitome of #BlackGirlMagic.

Curls and kinks and protective styles galore were everywhere I turned, and I could not have been happier to be amidst such a unique experience, celebrating the love for natural hair and the natural hair community.

The vibe was so positively inspiring, and the many times I gazed around the huge crowd I became more and more excited to be a Black woman in America today.

Curlfest (its third year) has brought out some great hair brands that truly understand the importance of embracing the people who purchase their product, as well as connecting with them on a more personal basis. It was great to see how these brands put together their booths filled with all kinds of products and treats for the attendees.

But, my favorite part of the day was admiring all the hairstyles that crossed my path. I was surprised to see that not many women went above and beyond with their hairdos. Most attendees just let their natural tresses be free, and that was just as great as seeing some of the unique styles.

But I have to take some time to showcase my favorite hairstyles of the day!

We called the candy color hair trend early, beauties, with GET THE LOOK: Slay Spring 2016 With These Hair Trends! Hair color is a big trend this spring and it was a big hit at Curlfest as well.

Braided hair, another hot hairstyle we have always loved and embraced but now is even more popular in other communities, was without a doubt in the place to be. But this young lady took it to the next level with a very dope spin on the classic straight-back cornrows.

Whether you call it a bun or a topknot, you know it’s one of the go-to styles in the natural hair community. I loved how these beauties put a spin on the traditional bun.

It was a hot day on June 26 so many women had their hair up to beat the heat. This headwrap was one of my favorite looks as well.

I have to say, Curlfest 2016 was EPIC. I’ve never felt so at home and embraced by strangers who just by one glance you can tell you’ve shared some of the same struggles. This event has grown so much in only three years and trust me, it’s only getting bigger. So next year I hope to see you all there!
