You’ve heard about it, read about all the accolades and awards it has received thus far and even caught a glimpse of what to expect via the teaser trailer that was released months back. Now however, audiences get an even closer look at writer/director/star Nate Parker’s The Birth of a Nation thanks to a full-length trailer that is sure to evoke emotion.

Already gracing many Oscar prediction lists for next year, The Birth of a Nation isn’t scheduled to be released until October yet the media and critical frenzy surrounding it is untouched. To give a refresher about what the film is about, take a look at the official synopsis.

Set against the antebellum South, this story follows Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. After witnessing countless atrocities against fellow slaves, Nat devises a plan to lead his people to freedom.

In addition to Nate Parker, the film also stars Gabrielle Union, Aja Naomi King, Armie Hammer and Jackie Earle Haley. Shadow and Act shared the latest trailer for the film today on its website and it looks even better than initially anticipated.
