Reverend Dr. Betty Deas Clark was named the first woman pastor of the Emanuel AMA church a few months ago – unfortunately, her tenure has reportedly already ended.

WCBD reports:

She has lead the church since the interim pastor Reverend Dr. Norvel Goff returned to his position as presiding elder over the Seventh District AME Church. Dr. Richard Norris is the Bishop of the 7th district.

Sources say that Dr. Clark has been moved to a church in a Georgetown. The name of the church has not been released. Several calls were made to Emanuel AME church requesting interviews with Dr. Clark. A spokesperson for the church would not confirm that she has been reassigned. Reverend Clark came to Mother Emanuel after the minister State Senator Reverend Clemente Pickney and 8 people were gunned down during Bible study.

Dr. Anthony Thompson confirmed that he would lead the Bible study on Wednesday night. He said that he is “shocked” by the news that Reverend Clark has been reassigned.

The news come just a year after nine people were killed in the historic church.
