According to E! News, Prince‘s ex-wives Manuela Testolini and Mayte Garcia got together and presented a special memorial for the late entertainer. Garcia, who toured and danced with Prince,  was married to him from 1996-2000. She birthed Prince’s only son, Boy Gregory, who had severe birth defects and died a week after his birth in 1996. Testolini, who is now married to singer Eric Benet, was married to Prince from 2001-2006.

“They wanted to have a somber memorial since they weren’t allowed at the other one,” a source says who also revealed that the top-secret event was attended by only those closest to the “Purple Rain” singer.

Hours before it went down, Spike Lee posted an Instagram previewing parts of his outfit, writing, “Purple beret and purple Kobe’s for Prince memorial tonight in El Lay.”

Even Prince’s family was left in the dark about the event. TMZ reports that “one of Prince’s family members says they didn’t hear about” the gathering this evening.”

It was just last week the late legend’s family released an official statement regarding any future plans they have for a memorial service.

Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park home/studio on April 21, less than one week after his plane made an emergency stop in Moline, Ill. shortly after a live show in Atlanta.

A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that investigators are looking into whether Prince died from a drug overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him drugs in the weeks before his death. TMZ reports that a family physician in Minneapolis who treated Prince before his death was not prescribing medications for him under any aliases nor was he prescribing multiple scrips for the late artist.
