Tony and Grammy award winner Heather Headley stars in Broadway’s The Color Purple as Shug Avery (replacing Jennifer Hudson) Tuesday, May 10th. She talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about the work it takes to make a production of this magnitude successful and the hilarious reason why Shug Avery may sound a little Trini some nights.
On the strenuous process:
“I’ve never been put into the shows before. It’s been a great process. I’ve been sequestered an they brought in understudies. The cast has been so nice. I have to remember four or five songs.”
