The story behind the protests against racial tensions on the campus of the University of Missouri last Fall will be the focus of a new short film from .
The Huffington Post reports the film, titled “2 Fists Up,” will be a part of Lee’s “Spike Lee’s Lil’ Joints” series. The project will document how Mizzou’s football team stood in solidarity with the campus organization Concerned Student 1950 to stand up to racial tensions on campus.
The united effort resulted in the resignation of the university’s president.
News of “2 Fists Up” comes after Lee traveled to Columbia, Missouri last weekend to watch the student-made documentary “Concerned Student 1950” at the True/False Film Festival. The film highlighted student activists at Mizzou. In addition to seeing “Concerned Student 1950,” Lee spent his time interviewing and filming students as they led a protest aimed at the Mizzou’s continued racial tensions.
“I think I can speak on the behalf of Concerned Student, but we are extremely appreciative of Spike’s presence — him wanting to hear our narrative is a great feeling and it’s an accomplishment,” student activist Kendrick Washington told The Maneater regarding his appreciation for Lee’s approach to the issue of campus racism. “We know people care about our movement on a national level and our dedication inspired him to come to know more about us.”
“2 Fists Up” is set to be released digitally on May 31.
