Saying he “did something stupid and wrong,” the White president of the Maricopa County, Arizona chapter of the NAACP on Wednesday apologized for making a sexist comment following a meeting on racial sensitivity, reports the Huffington Post.

The president, Don Harris, 77, said “Nice tits,” to a male Phoenix New Times journalist about a KPNX reporter. The incident occurred while reporters were gathered outside a private meeting held Tuesday by the Tempe Union High School District to discuss a viral photo of Desert Vista High School students who spelled out the n-word with their shirts. The meeting was focused on eradicating the use of the n-word, the report says.

The New Times captured audio of the comment and posted it online, and then called Harris, who delivered a colorful apology.

Via the HuffPo:

“I apologize if anyone was offended,” Harris told New Times. “I could have said nothing… I’m really [f***ing] sorry.”

But Harris, who also called himself “one of the best goddamned people in the state,” was just getting warmed up.

When asked if he would fight against sexist comments in addition to racist ones, Harris told New Times, “I’m going to slash my wrists. Better yet, I’m going to throw myself out of a [f***ing] window, except I’m on the first floor.

Harris told the Arizona Republic that he has offered to resign, but there is no word yet about whether it has been accepted by the executive board.

Do you think Harris should step down? Sound off in comments.
