In the beginning of your natural hair journey the #1 goal is to grow long hair. At one point everyone on YouTube was talking about length check.

Length check list:

– Eyebrow

– Nose

– Ear

– Lip

– Chin

– Bra strap

– Knee “ok knee length may be a bit extreme, ha!”

It’s been three years since the beginning of my natural hair journey and I quickly gave up on length checks. I was too impatient to let my hair grow and I needed to change my focus. After researching how to care for natural hair I learned that my focus should be creating a healthy hair regimen. After making a few changes my hair began to blossom like wild flowers. Now granted if I would stop cutting my hair it would be lot longer by now but I’m a sucker for tapered cuts!

7 tips to create a healthy hair regimen:

1. Shampoo your hair often to remove product buildup.

2. Deep condition with heat to help retain moisture.

3. Always detangle with a wide tooth comb or a detangling brush.

4. Use the L.O.C. Method to achieve maximum moisture.

5. Trim hair every 6 to 8 weeks.

6. Protect your hair at night with a satin bonnet, scarf, or pillowcase.

7. Find styles that require low manipulation or wear a protective style to give your hair a break.

Note: If you decide to wear braids as a protective style be sure to protect your edges by not braiding too tight.
