Yes, there is both good and bad bacteria, but when it comes to your skin, bad bacteria can be a nightmare and sometimes permanently damaging. Here are a few examples of skin ailments that are caused from overexposure to bad bacteria.

1. Impetigo

Often found in kids, but can be contracted by adults as well, impetigo is a very contagious skin condition. It looks like oozing patches of skin, that without treatment get larger by the day! According to Daniel Bronfin, MD, staff pediatrician at Ochsner General Medical, impetigo can lead to scarring, persisting for several months but they eventually disappear. These sores are very contagious, and need to be treated quickly in order to prevent spreading across other parts of your body or to others.

2. Cellulitis

This is a very common condition that tends to come from a venous disease, diabetes, eczema, an injury, obesity or pregnancy. The great part about cellulitis is that though it can pop up anywhere on the body, as quickly as it comes it can be just as quickly addressed. “Untreated cellulitis can progress to blood poisoning, a tissue infection or heart problems,” says Dr. Bronfin.
