Kim Coles married her love Reggie Mckiver in a small ceremony in the Dominican Republic in July, and wedding planner to the stars David Outer, who was on hand for their second wedding celebration, filmed the ceremony for a future episode of “David Tutera’s CELEBrations” on WEtv.

Coles and Mckiver, a health food business owner and former SWAT cop, met when he was assigned to be her security detail at a natural hair expo. Coles says, their connection was instant.

“[My heart] was open just enough for Reggie to come though and I’m so glad he did,” Coles told PEOPLE about the moment they met. “I’m 53 and Reggie is 41 but I’m not a cougar. I can’t run that fast. I’m a meerkat or a prairie dog. It’s about the right energy. It wasn’t like I was trolling for younger men. It’s about energy. We’re ageless. Just two people on the same plane.”

Almost every aspect of Kim and Reggie‘s wedding was customized – including their cake! “The adorable edible butterflies were from Etsy,” Coles said of the adorned the cake. “We had to cut the cake before the butterflies melted in the tropical humidity!”

“Chocolate cake is our favorite, but we wanted everyone to be happy” explains Coles, who invited just 25 people — including her younger brother and McKiver’s seven sisters (five of whom were able to attend) — to their ceremony on the beach.

In an interview last month, David touched on the types of details that couples tend to overlook.

“Couples often worry too much about pleasing everyone, which causes a lot of stress,” he said. “This is a sensitive area in the wedding planning process, and as much as you want to respect the input, suggestions and wishes of everyone around you, it’s almost impossible to please every single person on the day of your wedding. You need to put yourselves first and do what is best for you as a couple. Everyone will still enjoy themselves on your wedding day, because in the end it’s all about celebrating your love—not fretting over what Aunt Millie wanted you to do.”
