Back in June, BET awarded Tom Joyner with the 2015 Humanitarian Award  for his contributions to HBCUs across the country and the thousands of students he has impacted through The Tom Joyner Foundation.

It looks like during his moving speech, The Hardest Working Man in Radio inspired Tyrese and now the R&B crooner has not only decided to send one Compton native to college but also, he wrote a heartfelt message on his Instagram account dedicated to the radio pioneer.

See his message below:

Why did I decide to put this young kid from Compton through college?? Because I #dream with my eyes OPEN and this year I watch this true legend get UP on stage and give the most moving speech about WHY he has raised and donated over 65 million dollars and put close to 30,000 african american kids into college and I decided at that MOMENT I needed to DO something……. It’s all about the #Start and this young kid is #StraightOuttaCompton and he started his first day in college yesterday – Tom Joyner sir you ARE a legend and you HAVE impacted our world – 30,000 young sharp minds have an opportunity to be SIGNIFICANT in their lives because of you….. BET honored that day but you should be blessed and honored ALL YEAR for what YOU do on behalf of others….. Shout to @zothemotivator HBCU #MoreHouseCollege Walking the same grounds at Dr Martin Luther King Jr – you did the WORK ANS EARNED your slot….. Make up proud Zo please make us proud!!
