Another summer, another shooting at a hip-hop show. This time, though the shooting took place deep in the New Jersey suburbs at the PNC Bank Center outdoor arena. After rapper J.Cole, one of the genre’s most popular artists and his opening act, Big Sean performed, shots rang out in the outdoor arena’s parking lot, injuring at least 2 people.

The New York Daily News reports:

The shooting was reported at 11:14 p.m., after the show headlined by J. Cole finished at the PNC Bank Arts Center, New Jersey State Police Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams told the Daily News.

Witness Omayma Bougdour, 18, told the Daily News the shooting happened “over an argument” that broke out in the parking lot.

She said she heard gunshots while walking to her car.

“Everyone started sprinting and stampeding,” she said.

She saw two apparently injured men on the ground — one was “not responsive,” and the other was breathing heavily and begging for a drink of water, she said.

Another witness, Mike Lefanto, said he saw the two soon-to-be-victims speaking to a woman in the parking lot, “talking about her body.”

Out of nowhere, a man approached them and fired about seven shots, he said.

“He took those two dudes out right away,” said Lefanto, who was walking to his car with his 13-year-old daughter, Bella. “It looked like he knew what he was doing.”

A suspect has not been named, and police are searching a wooded area near the arena for the shooter, Williams said.

J. Cole is performing with Big Sean on Cole’s national Forest Hills Drive Tour, and they are due to perform at Madison Square Garden Tuesday
