Movie fans may have Fantastic Four on their list of films to see, but Michael B. Jordan and Kate Mara obviously did not see the awkwardness of a recent interview they did with a couple of radio hosts in Atlanta.

According to E! Online, Jordan and Mara were talking to Rock 100.5 Morning Show co-host Steven J. Rickman as he went in to asking the pair what he thought was an “obvious” question about Jordan playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Mara playing his sister Susan Storm/Invisible Woman in the upcoming film.

“Am I missing something?” asked Rickman, who goes by the name Southside Steve on the radio. “You’re white and you’re black. How does that happen?”

“They could be raised as brother and sister,” Jordan replied about the Storm siblings, who are white in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” comic books. “There’s a whole bunch of family dynamics that could be without the ‘obvious adoption.’”

From there, things continued to go south with Rickman’s focus on Mara’s hair.

You’re way, way hot,” he told the actress. “Why’d you cut the hair? Your hair was beautiful.” “I’m sorry,” Mara said. “I know you don’t like it. I can tell.”

“This is a great interview,” she said sarcastically before exchanging glances with Jordan and Jamie Bell, who plays Ben Grimm/Thing.

“You look great with short hair or long hair, but the long hair was excellent,” Rickman told Mara. So, did you cut your hair for this?”

“I cut my hair for a movie I just did,” Mara replied.

“What would you cut your hair for?” Rickman asked.

“They asked me to,” Mara explained. “I’m an actress. I have to be a chameleon.”

Not willing to take a hint, Rickman continued with his hair obsession, telling Mara, “So, this could be a three or four movie run for you guys.”

“We hope so,” Mara told the shock jock.

“And you’re going to grow your hair back, hopefully?” Rickman asked.

It was then that a publicist had enough and stepped in to save the day and put a wrap on the interview.

Realizing how strange things became, Rickman’s co-host, Jason Bailey, displayed a bit of sympathy for Mara, saying, “Is that weirding you out that he’s doing that? It’s creeping me out.”

“Which part?” Mara asked.

“The hair thing,” Bailey said.

“I mean…” Mara said.

Just when things were seemingly heading towards normalcy, Rickman chimed in to bring a creepier vibe before Mara could finish what she was going to say. “I’m a toe guy,” Rickman said. “Your toes are fine.” “Wow,” Mara said.

Needless to say, the interview turned out much differently than planned. Reacting to the situation, Rickman took to social media, tweeting that his chat with Jordan and Mara was the “3rd most awkward moment in my life.”

“They weren’t sexist remarks really.. I love long hair and her’s for sure..,” he wrote in another tweet. “She looked fine w/short too..just being me.” Amid backlash, he tweeted, “Doing morning radio for 25 years in major market..playing to my audience giving some love and your topless.. & i’m the perv.”

Rather than taking the social media route, Bailey defended his co-host in an e-mail response to BuzzFeed. Although he’s “not a huge fan of these controlled 5-7 minute interview junkets,” Bailey admitted that he “was curious about the brother and sister thing. You have a white sister and black brother. Wouldn’t you want to know how that happened? I did. The other Fantastic Four franchises explain the relationship so I figured with this new hipster version they’d have some different backstory.”

Regarding the questions about Mara’s hair, Bailey explained that Rickman asked the actress about her hair when Jordan took a phone call, “so I think they were kind of just going back forth in a playful way. As for him complimenting her toes and why people are upset about that…sorry…no idea. Steve likes girl’s toes. People should be appreciative when they get complimented. Those that are upset on Twitter I guess don’t get enough of them. Who knows?”

Bailey continued his defense of Rickman on-air Monday (Aug. 3) as he voiced that the situation was “blown way out of proportion.”

Going back to Mara’s toes, Bailey attributed Rickman’s questions to nothing more than his co-host being who he is.

“If I had a nickel every time Steve said that to a man or a woman… I would be very, very wealthy,” he said “It’s just a Steve thing.”

“I don’t do anything weird with feet,” Rickman clarified. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution referenced a text message Rickman sent in which he said he didn’t understand why folks were up at arms over questions pertaining to Mara’s current hairstyle.

“I guess it was the time frame or her mood that it came across as sexist,” Rickman said in the message. “I was just shocked to see that she cut 22 inches off her head, but she looked fine with short hair too.”
