While it seems that DMX has no problem with routinely being on the wrong side of the law, the “Party Up (Up in Here)” rapper admits he has learned a lesson from his many run-ins.

“I’ve learned to make my court dates, that’s pretty much it…and open the certified mail,” DMX told “TMZ Live.”

The entertainer’s comments come after his latest arrest, which took place last June for unpaid child support. According to reports, X was taken in by police while making his way to a show in New York City.

For the record, the Yonkers, N.Y. MC did claim that he is in the process of rectifying the matter, according to BET.

“I guess they [authorities] were watching us all day,” DMX explained. “I wish I could’ve performed but I don’t think it would’ve went as smoothly if I did perform. So in terms of looking at it from their perspective, they did a good job.”

For what it’s worth DMX confessed that with police being dressed in plain clothes, he was caught “extremely off guard” by the bust.

“At first I didn’t know it was police, because I didn’t see any badges,” he told “TMZ Live.” “It was a little unnerving, kind of like a kidnap move…[a] jack move, or whatever.”

Although DMX emphasized his belief that the “hip hop police” does exist, he mentioned that the unit was not involved in his arrest.

“I know for a fact that they exist,” the rhymesayer stated. “I think their main focus is to protect the rappers…the guys that need protection.”
