The heavily anticipated Black Panther movie will not be directed by one of the movie industry’s finest, and of our favorite powerful women, Ava DuVernay. DuVernay, who directed and co-wrote easily one of the most important films on race and history in Selma has been the shero to many who finally are hearing their side of history told in film. Apart from being an incredible director and writer, DuVernay has shown time and time and again that she is invested in Black stories, Black, history, and Black lives. And it is truly wonderful that she is who she is, and we are totally here for it.

Unfortunately, Ava DuVernay has confirmed that she will not be directing  the ironically or perhaps not so ironically-named Black Panther movie that will feature a Black superhero. DuVernay was one of the people considered for directing the movie that is set to finally come out in July 2018. Citing that she would have wanted to go in a different direction with the story than the project that was pitched to her, DuVernay claimed that the movie was simply not for her. It’s hard not to be a little disappointed that DuVernay will not be doing this movie but she does have other upcoming projects. Hopefully, the Blank Panther movie will still turn out well.
