AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is asking HBO to film its movie about abolitionist Harriet Tubman at the historic site of her former home in central New York.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports that the New York Democrat sent a letter Tuesday to the cable television network and its parent company, Time Warner Cable, urging them to film in the town of Fleming, just outside the city of Auburn.

HBO announced last month that “How to Get Away with Murder” star Viola Davis will play Tubman in a movie about the abolitionist hero. Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland, escaped and led countless slaves from the South to freedom along the Underground Railroad.
