BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) — Police say a man shot a couple and their three children, killing the father and a 9-year-old daughter and critically wounding the mother and two other children.
Neighbors say the mother and two children, covered in blood, crossed a usually busy two-lane highway to seek help after the early Friday shooting.
Neighbors Donna Davis said it “was like out of a horror movie.”
Police Capt. Clint Earls said 31-year-old Jermaine Sims and the couple’s 9-year-old daughter died later Friday. He said 29-year-old Victoria Sims, a 6-year-old son, and a 14-year-old daughter survived, in critical condition. Police didn’t release the children’s names.
Earls said 32-year-old Jimmy Lyons, who lived in the Sims’ home, has been accused of the shooting and faces two counts of murder and three counts of aggravated assault.
