What happens when you get together a boat full of Black women and water for eight days? They’ll need their hair done, of course! Well fortunately, SheaMoisture, the Black owned beauty products company that will be onboard the 2015 Fantastic Voyage to help women (and men) keep their skin and hair glowing and lovely during the cruise.

Shea Moisture is the brainchild of Sofi Tucker a native of Sierra Leone who sold shea butter products in the marketplace in Bonthe. When a civil war broke out in the African nation, Tucker never returned home.

So her grandson, Richeleiu Dennis, his sister, mother and best friend from college founded the company based on his grandmother’s skincare principles. They started selling their products on the streets of New York City and were eventually discovered by Target and Whole Foods at a trade show. Shea Moisture hair, beauty and bath products are now available at Walgreens, Target, Ulta and CVS as well as online.

“We’ve been very blessed,” says Dennis. “It’s called the American dream. It can happen.”

On the cruise, Shea Moisture will be doing hair and makeovers, which should make it one of the more popular destinations onboard.
