BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Attorneys for a Maine man accused of luring a 15-year-old to her death via a fake Facebook page say he isn’t the girl’s killer.

The trial of Kyle Dube of Orono got underway in Bangor on Monday. Investigators say Dube used a fake Facebook profile to set up a meeting with Nichole Cable of Glenburn, then killed her.

Defense attorney Wendy Hatch used her opening statement to say Dube was home with his family on the night of the killing. Prosecutors say DNA evidence shows otherwise.

Dube pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and murder in 2013. Police have said the 21-year-old Dube told others that he’d intended to abduct Nichole and later come to her rescue. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
