After airing just one episode of its second season, BET is already locking down a third for “Being Mary Jane.”

The Viacom-owned cable network has renewed the Gabrielle Union drama, two days after the show’s second-season debut opened as the No. 1 original series premiere on cable of the year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series, in its freshman run, ranked as the No. 1 new original drama series on cable among adults 18-49 and women 18-49.

Produced by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil (“The Game”), “Being Mary Jane” is one of only two remaining original scripted ongoing dramas on the network, joining Kevin Hart’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood.” (The network announced in October that “The Game” — an import from the former WB Network/UPN — would end its run after its upcoming ninth season. )

BET also recently canceled “Let’s Stay Together.”

New episodes of “Being Mary Jane” premire Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on BET.
