Rosie O’Donnell just cut to the chase this morning.

Rosie Perez is coming back, she’s rehearsing for the new Larry David play and begins previews on February 3, and that day, she will be back here,” O’Donnell announced today on “The View,” adding, “Don’t always believe what you read in the press, folks.”

Rosie O. was referring to Variety’s report last week that Rosie P. would not be returning to the show after she finishes rehearsing for her part in David’s Broadway play, Fish in the Dark, and that “The View” producers are trying to find a younger panelist to replace her.

ABC also jumped in today with a statement, “We look forward to welcoming the multi-talented Rosie Perez back to her seat as co-host on the panel on Feb. 3 after completing rehearsals.”

Perez and GOP politico Nicole Wallace were added to “The View” last year, Perez being a last-minute add by the show’s new EP Bill Wolff. They joined Whoopi Goldberg, and returning Rosie O’Donnell. At the time of that announcement, it was explained she would take off the month of January to rehearse for her role in the play.

This month, after the report Perez was fired, O’Donnell denied it the next morning on “The View,” telling viewers Perez’ play opens soon “and then she will be back here at her job, regardless of what you hear in other shows, or read in magazines as I did last night at 11:40 and went, ‘What the f**k?!’”

ABC News had tried to shoot down the report Perez was out at “The View,” the day it broke, issuing a statement: “Rosie Perez is currently in rehearsal for her Broadway play for the month of January. Her status with the show has not changed.” But speculation continued that

her one-year contract would not be renewed.

Meanwhile, “The View” continues its ratings freefall. For the first time ever, rival “The Talk” beat “The View” in total viewers for the week ending January 11. CBS’s 4-year-old daytime talk show averaged 2.95 million viewers to “The View’s” 2.88 million.
