Pregnancy is a beautiful aspect of life and with it comes a cycle of many ups and downs. Your hair especially goes through a lot of changes. Many pregnant women experience their hair being fuller, longer and bouncier during their pregnancy. Sometimes the texture of your hair may even change. But after the delivery of the new loved one, their hair may seem like it has taken a turn for the worst. The loss of the placenta creates a huge decrease in the levels of estrogen in a pregnant women’s body. Hence, the dramatic changes – like hair loss –  that occur post labor. Here are some tips that can help you better manage your hair before and after labor.

1. Massage

There is nothing like a great massage on your body, but on your scalp it can also be advantageous for you in many ways. Not only will it give you a reason to relax, it will help circulate the blood to your follicles. Try oiling your hair 3-4 times a week with olive, coconut, almond or jojoba oils. This helps to nourish your hair and scalp, giving it strength.

2. Shampoo/Conditioner

It is important to keep your hair clean and moisturized. Washing 1-2 times a week will ensure that your hair is getting the attention it needs. Keeping your hair clean towards the end of the pregnancy may become difficult and you may need to ask your partner or family for assistance.

3. No Color

It isn’t recommended to use chemicals on your hair while pregnant. Although there is limited scientific evidence that the chemicals can harm the unborn baby, it is better to be safe than sorry. Not to mention, your hair is in a fragile enough state as it, it’s better to stick to the au naturale.
