Legendary actress Irma P. Hall welcomes the Tom Joyner Morning Show to her hometown of Beaumont, Texas. She was born in the Southern city although she was raised elsewhere.

“I was born there, and was there the first seven years of my life. That’s where I started everything,” Hall says.”One day when I was growing up in Chicago, I tried to catch a freight train trying to get back to Beaumont. But it wasn’t going anywhere, because it wasn’t connected to nothing,” she laughs.

Best known for her roles in the movie Soul Food as Big Mama and The Ladykillers with Tom Hanks, Hall says that her hometown is what helped propel her to succeed. Hall is working on faith-based and family films these days. She just finished a film called Steps Of Faith, an independent film starring Charles Malik Whitfield, who played Otis in The Temptations movie and former Love Boat star Ted Lange.

Hall says in her career, she’s done about 150 films, not bad for a girl from Beaumont.
