Muhammad Ali celebrated his 73rd birthday away from the hospital this past weekend after receiving treatment for a severe urinary tract infection.

Bob Gunnell, an Ali family spokesman revealed to the Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the boxing icon was released from the hospital Friday and that he was looking forward to celebrating his birthday on Saturday at home with family and friends.

“The Ali family greatly appreciates the outpouring of support and continued well wishes,” Gunnell said in a statement.

Ali’s hospital stay, which lasted several days this week, was his second hospital-related experience in the last month. On Jan. 7, the three-time former heavyweight world champ was released from hospital following a two-week stay for what doctors thought then was pneumonia. Ali was ultimately found to have had a urinary tract infection.

The sports legend has had his share of health problems over the years, most notably from Parkinson’s disease. As a result, Ali has been in the public eye less as he’s made fewer public appearances. His most recent sightings included attending the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards in Louisville in September as well as his grandson’s state championship football game in Las Vegas in December.
