This afternoon attorneys Benjamin Crump, Walter Madison and Daryl Parks will hold a 1 p.m. press conference from the Cleveland NAACP headquarters with Samaria Rice, the mother of slain 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was shot and killed by a Cleveland police officer who responded to a 911 call, complaining about Rice waving a gun at the playground. It was a toy gun. Police shot Tamir seconds after pulling up to respond to the call.

Samaria called the press conference to share the latest developments of her son’s case. According to reports, Cleveland police announced last week that they’re handing over the investigation to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s office to ensure transparency and impartiality. The family is very optimistic about this ruling.

“I’m actually looking for a conviction,” Samaria said, when asked what her goal would be in getting justice for Tamir. Check back as we find out more details from the press conference.
