Blue-eyed soul rocker Joe Cocker, best known for his cover of the Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends,” has died aged 70.

Born John Robert Cocker on May 20, 1944 in Sheffield, the singer-songwriter had a career lasting more than 40 years. His international success as a blues/rock singer began in 1964.

Among his classic hits are “You Are So Beautiful” and “Up Where We Belong,” for which he received a Grammy in 1983.

In confirming his death, agent Barrie Marshall said he was “simply unique” and “it will be impossible to fill the space he leaves in our hearts.”
