There’s a YouTube channel called “Honestly Speaking,” where a Black woman has uploads videos of herself ranting over several topics. One video in particular titled “Mike Brown Fiasco” contains a very loud and clear diatribe against the Ferguson protestors and slain teenager Michael Brown. The women in the video passionately says that Brown should’ve known better than to try and steal from a convenience store in the first place (on that fateful August 9th) and that “[Brown] started the trail that led to his death.” Wow.
Her video is filled of controversial statements about the people who have bonded together in protests over the unfair non-indictment of Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Brown. We’ve heard similar arguments from right-wing commentators (who obviously love the video), but this video is one of the rare occasions in which a Black person actually vocalized their agreement with the Bill O’Reillys of the world.
The woman’s enraged plea begins with “At some point, we all have to realize that he went into a store, stole something, assaulted someone and that the cops were called on him.” She then goes on with, “When he was approached, he was disrespectful. When he was told to stop, he did not stop!” She also confronts what Black Twitter lampooned as Wilson’s “injuries” from Brown in that “How did the cop get scratches on him! Whether they were itty bitty scratches or miniscule scratches or whatever…”
Based on her channel, she’s only been uploading opinionated clips for two weeks, but already she’s racked up over a 1,000 subscribers, and this particular video has over a million views already. This may make her the Stacey Dash of YouTube and vlogger equivalent of meme sensation Martin Baker (who was the sole Black person to show up for a Wilson rally). Her rant also has hints of Pharrell William’s controversial need to discuss Brown’s alleged bullying prior to being killed.
Who knows if this woman recorded and put up this video just for shock value or this is what she truly believes, but is this one person who isn’t afraid to speak on what she felt is hypocrisy.
