Dave Chappelle is known for saying and doing outrageous things on TV and film, but he may be a bit out there with what he said about Donald Sterling.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Chappelle touches on the controversy surrounding Sterling while mentioning how the former NBA team owner didn’t deserve to lose ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers.

“Ultimately, I don’t think he should have lost his team,” Chappelle shared. “I don’t like the idea that someone could record a secret conversation and that a person could lose their assets from that, even though I think what he said was awful.”

Chappelle’s defense of Sterling follows comments made by Bill Maher, who generated negative feedback for defending Sterling’s right to free speech in May.

As we all know, Sterling ultimately got banned for life from the NBA after racist comments he made went public. Despite fighting the sale of the Clippers, a judge ultimately allowed his wife Shelly to sell the team to Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.
