A convicted Ohio man is petitioning for an early release from prison in order to watch LeBron James play for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jason Goudlock, is a 39-year-old man from Cleveland who served more than 20 years for aggravated robbery.
“On the lighter side, I would truly like to witness in person LeBron James’ pursuit of an NBA championship for my beloved hometown,” he said, according to the NY Daily News. He’s faced the Ohio Parole Board five times for an early release. But Gouldlock is still locked in Toledo Correctional Institution. He’s been in prison since 1994.
Goudlock’s letter pleading for an early release was serious, which pointed out he served more years in prison than some newer convicts who are in for murder.
“I am not a career criminal, and I am ready to be released from prison,” he said in his September plea letter.
He claimed this is due to a flaw in the sentencing guidelines. He started a public campaign for his freedom, which he said in his letter he would use to help at-risk youths.
“I have begun to develop a plan for helping at-risk youths. To do this, I must lead by example, which is what I will do if you grant me the opportunity to begin the process of redeeming myself,” he said.
He goes before the board this month. If he’s unsuccessful, he could be in prison until 2028.
That will make his total sentence 34 years.
