A Florida man was arrested for choking his wife over the amount of leftovers left in the house.

The New York Daily News reports:

Desmond Brownlee, 45, was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and tampering with a witness at his home in Deltona early Monday morning, according to a Volusia County police report obtained by The Smoking Gun.

Police said he allegedly shoved his wife, struck her multiple times in the face, and then put his hands on her neck and applied pressure, the report said.

That’s when his wife struck Brownlee in the lip and was able to escape, the report stated. She dialed 911, but Brownlee took the phone from her and said he would not allow her to call police, the wife said according to the report.

When officers arrived at the home, Brownlee could be heard saying to the victim, “Shhh, what do you want, us both to go to jail?”

The physical altercation started over a verbal argument after Brownlee became upset that there was not enough fried chicken leftovers and also over the care of his wife’s mother.

The couple have been married for four years and have a daughter, who was sleeping in another room as the incident occurred.

Brownlee was transported to Volusia County Jail Monday but is no longer in custody, according to the jail.
