Janay Rice, the woman at the center of the NFL suspension of her husband, former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has had her say. In a statement posted to her Instagram account (since made private) Rice says she and her family have been targeted by the media and made to relive a moment in their lives that “we regret everyday.”
Rice, a 26 year-old native of Mt. Pleasant, New York and a graduate of Towson State University, married the embattled NFL star after footage of her being dragged out of an elevator surfaced seven months ago. At the time, it was said that Rice had been knocked out in the altercation with her husband, but only video of the aftermath was available.
The NFL subsequently suspended Rice for two games, prompting domestic violence advocates and others to say the league had been too lenient. When new video surfaced that shows Rice throwing the punch, he was released by the Baltimore Ravens just a week into the new NFL season.
The couple had a daughter, Rayven, in 2012.
