NEW YORK (AP) — Joan Rivers, the raucous, acid-tongued comedian who crashed the male-dominated realm of late-night talk shows and turned Hollywood red carpets into danger zones for badly dressed celebrities, died Thursday. She was 81.

Rivers was hospitalized last week after she went into cardiac arrest at a Manhattan doctor’s office following a routine procedure. Daughter Melissa Rivers said she died surrounded by family and close friends.

Rivers — who opened her routine with the trademark “Can we talk?” — never mellowed during a decades-long career. She moved from longtime targets such as Elizabeth Taylor, whom she famously ridiculed as fat, to new faces, and continued to appear in clubs and on TV into her 80s.

why should someone be sorry for her when made fun of those little girls who was in that house for years and wouldn’t apologize for it. Calling the First Lady a transgender was below the belt.

If anything I truly admired Joan Rivers for is…she is a fighter, she started poor and never stopped achieving. Gotta give her that and she was funny and inappropriate most of the time. But she believed life is tough and if you want to survive and strife, you must be tough also…So for that Joan River rest in peace…You never gave up and gave life your best fight.

  3. Either you loved her…..or hated her. Even though she sometimes went in hard on people…I loved her humor because I love to laugh!! After all she was a comedian….and that’s what comedians do. I will say this……she was A LOT MORE ACTIVE THAN LOTS OF YOUNG PEOPLE. RIP Joan!

  4. I like Joan, until she made a very mean and distasteful remark after Michael Jackson’s death. She also called the president’s children very mean names. However, I do feel very sad for her family

  5. always loved joan until she made the comment about our FIRST LADY………. she had a wonderfully looooong career talking ugly about ppl.😦 condolences to melisa and cooper.
