This story out of LA is crazy. A video has surfaced of a woman being approached by a police officer. What ensued as the cop approached the woman in the video was beyond belief.
According to KNBC, the video footage begins as the CHP (California Highway Patrol) officer follows a woman who is walking and carrying a white bag.
Moments later, the officer tries to grab the woman’s arm and she appears to resist.
He threw her to the ground. While the woman was on her back, the officer held her down and punched her in the head and upper body for about 11 seconds, according to the video.
Said David Diaz who shot the video footage,
“No one condones…when he gets on top of a woman, and this is a big officer, and he punches her repeatedly. I think he punched her in the head 15 times..”
The woman appeared to use her arms and hands to protect her face from the officer’s blows. A plain clothes officer joined the initial officer to help control the woman as she was placed in handcuffs.
At the time of year when we are supposed to be thinking about the freedom and liberty that we always hear so much about…it is odd to see this story pop up. But now that it has it must be looked at…we warn you this video is disturbing.
A statement was released by the California Highway Patrol that said,
“The California Highway Patrol (CHP) just became aware of the video today and we are investigating the entire incident,” according to the statement. “As a matter of policy, every time there is a use of force by our officers, there is a review conducted to determine whether the use of force was appropriate. That will be done in this case, however, since there is an ongoing investigation, it would be premature to comment on this specific video segment. After the investigation is completed it will be reviewed at multiple levels within the Department.”
We are still waiting to find out more information about both the victim and the assailing officer. We get the idea that this is going to be one of those stories that has lots of “missed warning signs” as it pertains to both of the people involved. Stay tuned.
