Legendary soul singer Bobby Womack died Friday at age 70. According to Rolling Stone a representative for Womack’s label, XL Recordings, confirmed the singer has died, but said the cause of death was currently unknown.

In January of 2013 it was reported that Womack was battling the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member wrote numerous hits; including the Rolling Stones It’s All Over Now, and If You Think You’re Lonely Now, That’s the Way I Feel About Cha and Lookin’ for a Love.

Womack was in the process of recording his next album, tentatively titled The Best Is Yet to Come and reportedly featuring contributions by Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart and Snoop Dogg.  He recently performed at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and was scheduled to perform at multiple events across Europe in July and August.

Bobby Womack had recorded 17 songs that charted in Billboard’s Hot 100 and forty of his songs made it to Billboard’s top R&B chart.
