When you think of music’s most successful artists from 1984 until now, chances are a ton of names will come to mind. Depending on genre and popularity and even their respective era, the singers on your list mayvary.

This isn’t the case when talking about the most successful tours  from the last 30 years.

So what’s considered successful? If you’re a record label, success directly translates into dollars and cents. If you’re a fan, that could mean something as simple as hoping the artist sings all your favorite songs while on stage.

We’re going with the record companies on this one.

We’ve narrowed down the top five highest grossing black music tours, and unlike your list of most successful  artists, these names hardly vary. In fact out of the five tours, three of the artists share the same last name.

1. Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad Tour’, 1988

This tour served as MJ’s fist solo effort. It spanned the globe with stops in 15 countries on 4 continents, and included 123 concerts to about 4.4 million fans. It brought in $250 million.

2. Beyonce’s ‘The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour’, 2013

“The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour” brought in more than $41.1 million during 25 shows on its last leg in Europe.

After 23 countries and 126 shows in total, the tour brought in a staggering $212 million with $1.8 million in tickets.

3. The Jackson’s ‘Victory Tour’, 1984

In 1984 this marked the group’s final concert tour in the United States and Canada. The group performed for 2 million fans in 55 different shows, bringing in $170 million.

4. Michael Jackson’s ‘HIStory World Tour’, 1996

This was MJ’s final solo world tour. 4.5 million fans saw Michael Jackson in 82 shows, in 58 cities, 35 countries on 5 different continents. It brought in $165 million and is the only tour of his that has never been released on DVD.

5. Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds World Tour’, 2013

This was Rihanna’s fifth concert tour and proved to be her most successful. Bringing in $140 million, the Barbados beauty visited America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia, performing in 96 shows. She became the youngest singer ever to sell out the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Did you attend any of these shows? What’s your favorite musical memory from Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Rihanna or The Jackson’s?
