The transition from relaxed to natural hair has become increasingly popular. What is now referred to as the “natural hair movement,” has more Black women wanting to ditch the chemicals for their own curls.
I’m an advocate for going natural and being natural, but a few things should be taken into consideration before making the decision to become a naturalista!
You must embrace your hair. I’ve heard stories of women taking the leap to go natural and then hating it because of the way their hair looked. When it comes down to it, it’s not for everyone. But to truly be about this natural hair life you have to accept your hair, its texture, and everything that comes with it. It’s something different, but you have to fully embrace and love it.
You need patience…a lot of it. If you think you’re about to go natural today, and your hair goals will be met tomorrow, you are sadly mistaken. Patience is required for managing and growing natural hair. Understand that results take time, especially if the last time you were natural was when you were a baby!
