Harvard doctors have coined the term “hood disease” to describe a complex form of post-traumatic stress syndrome threatening the well-being of inner-city youth, reports The Root.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that nearly 30 percent of U.S. inner-city youths are affected by the disorder, which makes it difficult for them to learn. Those who exhibit the disorder often live in virtual war zones, the CDC report says.

Doctors at Harvard recently coined the name “hood disease,” a term for a more complex form of PTSD, the news site reports. And since the youths rarely escape their communities—unlike soldiers who eventually leave a war zone—they are repeatedly exposed to trauma.

Pointing to the lack of food security, rampant violence and a culture of fear that permeates inner-cities across the country, San Francisco State University associate professor Jeff Duncan-Andrade told KPIX 5 that education is secondary to survival for these children.

“You could take anyone who is experiencing the symptoms of PTSD, and the things that we are currently emphasizing in school will fall off their radar,” said Duncan-Andrade. “Because, frankly, [schoolwork] does not matter in our biology if we don’t survive the walk home.”

Cave n!@@ers and their depraved definition of Nubian humanity. In the 80’s these neanderthal apes said we had a violent gene, which made us predisposed to violence. Now these mayonnaise monkeys say we have Hood disease both asinine assertions. These rigid and racist bastards need to define the disease which afflicts their people and cause them slaughter and murder their families in the so called save suburbs. Maybe it’s suburban savage syndrome. They should have never been let out of the caves of Europe.

Since they want to classify it as similar to PTSD then they should be getting the same PTSD assistance as our PTSD veterans.

    • Find another way to get a handout. Great. Don’t you see that reliance on Government handouts is the single greatest reason why we have a hood?

      Damm peeps, come on.

This an an insult and a poor excuse using inner city children as a scapegoat term. Why is it a war zone? Why aren’t the elected officials/politicians doing their job to make their district’s a better place to live? Inner City’s have no business being a war zone period! Blame most of that on the elected officials, police departments and poor leadership not doing their jobs not the children who happen to live in that area!

BS and rediculous! It’s up the parents whether it’s both parents in the home or a single parent home.

  6. PARENTS can make or break their kids where you grow up does not affect how you grow up.There were 4 of us grew up in the projects divorced mom no dad our mom worked she made us work and stay in school. We had no time for the streets or trouble. Now 4 college grads no more projects one proud mom.Invest good pride and work etic in your kids no matter where they LIVE.

  7. Probably the same people that coined “affluenza”. These young people have PTSD, not a form of PTSD, not the “Hood” version of PTSD, but simply PTSD! Stop the racial divide. Oh, that’s right… if you call it PTSD these young people may be eligible for treatment and you can’t have that!
