Emmanuel Ekaette (pictured) was arrested and charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery, cannabis possession and endangering the health of a child, after he allegedly gave his girlfriend and a one-year-old boy a slice of a marijuana-laced cake to eat, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The 23-year-old Chicago man visited his unnamed girlfriend Saturday and reportedly brought the cake in question with him. After the woman took several bites of the chocolate treat and fed pieces of it to the toddler, who is a relative, she noticed crushed flakes in the mixture. According to Assistant State’s Attorney Sean Brady, “[The girlfriend] asked several times and he told her it was spices,” referring to the woman’s curiosity about the cake’s strange ingredients.

After consuming some of Ekaette’s cake, the woman began to feel “hazy” and out of sorts, according to the court’s prosecutors. The woman decided to go to the nearest hospital emergency room to seek treatment. After the woman and child were evaluated by doctors, it was discovered that both she and the boy had ingested marijuana.

Police arrested Ekaette Saturday night. Remnants of the cake were sent to an Illinois State police crime lab for further analysis.

When Ekaette was escorted into a Cook County courtroom on Sunday, he was allegedly smiling as he stood before the presiding judge, who slapped him with a $50,000 bond.
