If you haven’t already read Walter Mosley, step away from the computer and go check out one of his Easy Rawlins mysteries. The period detective series, set in 1940’s Los Angeles, is Mosley’s best known work.

The 1995 movie Devil In A Blue Dress, starring Denzel Washington is the film version of  one of Mosley’s Rawlins mysteries.

But Mosley has expanded beyond Easy in several other novels. His latest, Debbie Doesn’t Do It Anymore is about a Black porn queen who wants to move on.

After her husband, former porn star turned “film” producer Theon Pinkney, dies in a hot tub accident with another woman, Debbie wants out.But unfortunately for her, leaving the life she’s known proves to be a soul-scorching challenge.

“She’s tall she’s Black-skinned, she has long platinum hair down to her butt, she has deep ocean-blue contact lenses and a tiny stain under her eye that looks like a tattoo because it’s white,” Mosley tells the Tom Joyner Morning Show. “She’s the most identifiable woman in the porn industry and she has decided, in the first four pages of the book, to quit that industry.”

Mosley says that the book, just released today has already generated some film and TV interest. As to who could play such a complex character on screen?

“That’s a really good question. We’ve been asking that lately. We’ve actually been trying to do it as a series. You have that trouble in the modern world where people come up to you and they’re still saying there can be only one. A lot of people are saying Lupita and she’s wonderful but I don’t think she’s right for this role. I don’t know, I’d like to just discover a new Pam Grier.”

In great news for fans of Mosley’s popular detective, Mosley says he’s just finished a new Easy book.

“He’s been hired to find a criminal and in the middle of the case, he’s decided that the criminal is the victim and he’s really his client. Mouse [Easy’s trigger happy sidekick] is always somewhere. He’s always around in case Easy gets into too much trouble.”
