A few proud Southern University alumni proved their Jaguar pride donating $100,000 to the Baton Rouge, Louisiana campus.

The generous gift is part of a 3-1 matching program between the oil and gas conglomerate and the Golden Roots Annuitants Club and will be available for student scholarships beginning in 2015.

The group of SU graduates are all retired employees of ExxonMobil and hope to make the donation an annual occurrence for the students at Southern.

Southern University Chancellor James Llorens had this to say about the donation:

“We appreciate what the members of the Golden Roots Annuitant Club are doing to help us provide scholarships and assistance to students who are choosing Southern University,” he said. “This donation, no doubt, will help us attract and keep more of the best and brightest on the campus.”

Should alumni be expected to give back financially? What are some reasons why alumni don’t give back?
