Los Angeles – Over 300 women and men came together in South Los Angeles on Monday, May 5 to call attention to the plight of 276 kidnapped and missing Nigerian girls.

The Bring Back Our Girls Los Angeles rally which was held at the intersection of Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevards in Los Angeles, was part of a coordinated effort of rallies across America to urge more U.S. action in helping to locate and return the missing girls who were abducted by the radical Islamist group Boko Haram on April 14 in the middle of the night at the all-girls Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria.

Boko Haram’s primary goal is to create a “pure” Muslim state ruled by Sharia law and to end “Westernization” in the process. Nigerian media has reported that most of the schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity have been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after they were married off to sect members for N2,000 each — the equivalent of $12.43 American dollars.

Los Angeles County is home to one of the largest populations of Nigerians living in America.
